Where to Eat in La Paz
La Paz is no longer just a stopover port. Over the last decade, the city built its own food scene: sustainable seafood, Japanese-Baja fusion, Argentine pizza, French brunch, and health-conscious food with local ingredients. Here are five places worth knowing.
Toto Frito
Legal and sustainable totoaba
Chef Maho Hakoshima
El Triunfo (Calle Topete esq. Soledad) · Esterito (Belisario Domínguez esq. Torre Iglesias)

Totoaba was a prohibited species. Today it's an ethical luxury: Toto Frito works exclusively with certified mariculture totoaba (Earth Ocean Farms, Sol Azul Maricultivos), turning conservation into gastronomy. The rice-flour Fish & Chips is light, not greasy. The Totoviche (totoaba ceviche), snappers and oysters complete a menu that couldn't exist anywhere else in the world. Average price: ~200 MXN per full order.
La Coyota
Argentine pizza in the hipster alley
Centro Histórico

Thin, crispy crust (not Neapolitan), artisanal pomodoro and quality mozzarella. The Pepe Lui (275 MXN), La Bariloche (340 MXN), Cherry Bomb veggie (260 MXN) and Fugazzeta (260 MXN) anchor a menu that also features shrimp and morita chile empanadas and slow-roasted lamb with honey and dark beer. Seasonal specials include La Costerita (May, inspired by taco gobernador) and Ficus Caria (only when fresh figs are available). Pet-friendly, outdoor patio, four-page cocktail list. Works equally well as a family dinner or late-night spot.
3 Amigos Dessert Cafe
French brunch with clockwork precision
Chef Alain & Agnès
Calle Belisario Domínguez

French chef Alain and his wife Agnès personally greet every table. The poached egg is technically perfect, the almond croissant has just the right lamination. The Avocado Toast on a buttery croissant with pico de gallo, bacon and poached egg is the city's Instagram dish. Amigos Benedictos is the house signature. Chicken Salad Bagel and Mango Chamoy Smoothie complete the offering. Closes at 3pm — don't be late.
